Gregory Adams is a 2012 candidate for DeKalb County CEO. A citizen of DeKalb County for over 20 years, Gregory is not a stranger to service, community advocacy, and entrepreneurship.
After graduating from high school, Gregory served his country in the United States Army from February 1983 to February 1986 and then in the Individual Ready Reserve from 1986 to 1989. During his tenure in the army, he taught a class on the art of warfare as a Field Artillery Instructor at West Point. Upon receiving an Honorable Discharge from the United States military, Gregory pursued education at several institutions of higher learning including Murray State University, Atlanta Area Tech, and Georgia Perimeter College. At an early age, he began his community advocacy by serving as chairman of the committee to restore I. P. Reynolds School in Atlanta.
As further evidence of his commitment to service, Gregory answered the call to ministry in August of 1992 as a minister in the True Church of God in Christ, Inc. In 1996, Gregory Adams became a pastor of a congregation currently located in Austell, GA. He has evangelized nationally in Alabama, Tennessee, Michigan, and Milwaukee and internationally in Kenya, Jamaica, and the Philippines.
Perhaps one highlight of Gregory’s career was his time with the DeKalb County Police Department from 2007-2011. Inspired by and determined to promote safety, Gregory yet again put himself in harm’s way to protect the residents of DeKalb County. Gregory resigned from the police force in 2011 because of his passion and commitment to reestablish DeKalb County as a safe community of which we can all be proud.
In addition to being employed by DeKalb County, Gregory also managed several companies. Gregory has been a successful entrepreneur with several family-oriented businesses including Adams Transportation, A and G Transportation, A and A Transportation and Simply Class by Jackie, a hair salon. He is also Deputy Director of Project3Sixty, a nonprofit organization.
Gregory is also an advocate for educating our youth and helping them strive for success. He mentors and encourages young people to pursue higher education and be aware of the company they keep. He often states, “Success is not given—it is obtained. Nothing beats a failure, but a try.”
Gregory Adams is an advocate for the needs of the people and has chosen to run for DeKalb County CEO 2012. He aims to make all areas of DeKalb County flourishing and safe.
Gregory has been married to Jacqueline Adams for 28 years, and they are the proud parents of 6 children whose careers and interests range from a chef, a PhD student, a musician, a veterinary student, a radiology student, and a future politician.
Gregory’s platform is Public Safety but his mission is to Rebuild, Unite and Navigate for a better DeKalb County.
